Tretoin Cream contains Tretinoin as its active ingredient, a carboxylic acid derivative of vitamin A, and is classified as a first-generation topical retinoid. It is frequently used to address acne and keratosis pilaris (a non-threatening skin condition marked by rough, dry patches and small bumps, typically found on the cheeks, upper arms, buttocks, and thighs). Tretinoin is recognized on the WHO list of essential medicines, which comprises the most crucial medications necessary for a basic health care system.

Tretoin Cream is prescribed for topical application in the management of acne vulgaris, characterized primarily by blackheads, papules, and pustules. Its use as a standalone treatment is not advised for acne conglobata (a severe inflammatory condition presenting with blackheads, nodules, pustules, and draining sinus tracts).

Tretoin Cream features Tretinoin as its active component. Being a derivative of retinol, it shares both structural and pharmacological connections to vitamin A, which oversees cellular growth and revitalizes the outer skin layer. This action helps to thin the skin's surface layer and minimize pore blockage, thereby diminishing the likelihood of developing blackheads, whiteheads, and acne.

Tretoin Cream is generally well tolerated after nightly application. Side effects are usually mild and may include irritation, peeling, and redness, particularly during the initial phases of treatment. Some users might notice a temporary warming sensation or mild stinging following application. Should excessive reactions occur, the application frequency may be decreased, or treatment paused until the side effects lessen. Once tolerable, the frequency or dosage can be adjusted accordingly.

Tretoin Cream should be used once daily, before bed, on the areas of skin with lesions. Prior to applying the cream, clean the area and pat it dry with a soft cloth. Apply a sufficient amount to lightly cover the entire affected region. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly after application.

Avoid allowing Tretoin Cream to make contact with sensitive areas of your face such as the eyes, nose, or lips. If these areas come into contact with the medication accidentally, wash them thoroughly with water.

After using Tretoin Cream, you may feel a temporary warmth or slight stinging sensation. In such instances, it’s advised to lessen the application frequency or cease treatment. The frequency can be increased, or treatment resumed once the patient is able to tolerate the medication. If uncertain, consult your physician.

Patients undergoing treatment with Tretoin Cream for acne may apply cosmetics, but should ensure the affected area is thoroughly cleansed prior to medication application. Over-application of the cream will not yield quicker or superior results and may lead to significant redness, skin peeling, and discomfort. Consult your physician in the event of an accidental overdose.

Use Tretoin Cream for the duration prescribed. Do not interrupt the treatment prematurely as it may take four to six weeks to observe the medication's effects. If there is no improvement in acne after this period, contact your physician.

Always remember to apply Tretoin Cream punctually. If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you recall.
